But, all is not lost – sending an SMS is one of the most effective ways to get your customers back online to complete their order.
But you need to do it right! Here are some things to keep in mind when adding SMS into your customer journey:
Send the first message shortly after the cart is abandoned to make sure their order is still top of mind. The following messages can be spaced out strategically but that first message is crucial.
Address the customer by name and reference the specific items they abandoned to make the message more relevant.
Clearly state what you want the customer to do next. Do you want them to return to their cart straight away? Or are you giving them 24hrs before their cart is emptied? Tell them what you want them to do.
One of the best ways to get your customer to complete their order, is to offer them a compelling reason to do so. Perhaps a discount, free shipping, or a limited-time offer.
Provide an easy way for customers to opt out of receiving further messages from you. For example, you can include a simple STOP request in your message.
